Interisk Data Management System

The design and implementation of the Interisk information system was one of the main tasks of the Institute of Marine Biology of Crete.
The design of the system is based on the originally proposed concept, providing the users, the facilities to use it either as regional or as an interregional system. The system developed, consists of three main datasets: the Local, the Regional and the Interregional database. Data can be transferred from the local system to the regional one or even to the interregional system and vice versa. The Interisk database consists of the following elements:

  • Reference database
  • Monitoring database
  • Inventory database
  • Documentation database
The Reference database consists of a set of data tables containing standard encoded reference information. This information is not changing frequently and is used to accelerate data entry. The Inventory database consists of a set of data tables containing inventory data strictly related to each region. The Monitoring database is the place where the actual measurements of all monitored parameters are stored. The Documentation database contains bibliographic and legislative information.
The system is equipped with data mining and analysis tools, which enable the users to perform several analysis procedures on the spot.
